On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Yohei Matsumoto visited the Manga Department at Kumamoto Prefectural Takamori High School. This department, established in April 2023, is the first of its kind in a public high school in Japan and is primarily aimed at training manga artists. After the inspection, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Matsumoto commented, "It was helpful in terms of how to cultivate specialized personnel and how to support the dreams of children who are striving to realize their potential in various professions. I was impressed by how seriously the students were engaged in their lessons, and how each student clearly and specifically answered questions about the significance of studying at this school and what kind of jobs they wanted to pursue after graduation."
